GeorgesAide Meal Program
Past and Future
Prior to 2020, St. George’s ran a drop-in centre out of our Parish Hall. When COVID-19 forced this program to close, we began serving meals out the door, and Georges Aide was born. We continue to seek partners to expand this ministry in support of the most vulnerable people in our community.
400 Meals a Week!
Our chef and team of volunteers prepare more than four hundred meals a week for our neighbours in Montreal who are facing homelessness and food insecurity.
- One hundred meals are shared with the homeless community around St. Georges
- Two hundred are distributed on Fridays by the International Cultural Organization at Park Extension Metro.
- One Hundred are distributed by Mile End Mission at their weekly food bank.
Volunteer!
Volunteers are needed to help with meal preparation. Please contact georgesaide@st-georges.org. Volunteers are particularly needed Wednesdays and Fridays (between 9-2pm) but can also be helpful at other times. Volunteers join a friendly team, led by our Chef and Program Coordinator, Kosala.
Support!
The Georges Aide meal program is supported by donations from the community and grants from organizations, including Second Harvest and Hockey Helps The Homeless – Play With Purpose! We also receive surplus food from daycares and businesses.
Georges Aide also collects toiletries to distribute to the homeless and organizes a fundraiser for warm winter items at Christmas time.
